Backpacking France

Europeans and people from all over the world will head onto Paris in July and August for the games. So it just makes sense to head to spots in the country which are equally excited for the Olympic Games but without the crowds or inflated prices.

France is renowned for its rich history, delectable cuisine, exquisite art and even its beaches. All of this can be found throughout France and not just Paris. Wander the cobblestone streets of Provence, where lavender fields are abundant. Or backpack through the Loire Valley which is full of unique history. Check out the vibrant markets of Marseille or the beaches of the French Riviera.

For the culinary connoisseur, a visit to the gastronomic capital of Lyon is a must.  Indulge in the finest French cuisine while sipping on world-class wines from the nearby vineyards of Burgundy and Bordeaux. And guess what, it's a fraction of the cost that you would have spent if you were to get this food or wine in Paris.

One of my personal favorites is Biarritz. Which is a beautiful surf town in the Basque Atlantic. Definitely worth a visit! Don't forget your collapsible packing cubes! Just because you'll be travel backpacking, doesn't mean you can't have a nice wardrobe to compete with the French. 

 

Backpacking Peru

While technically winter in the southern hemisphere, Summer (in northern hemisphere) is the perfect time to explore the wonders of Peru. In paarticular the iconic cities of Cusco and Machu Picchu. Why? Because Peruvian Winter is their dry season. During dry season, the skies clear, and the sun illuminates the ancient ruins, allowing visitors to fully appreciate their awe-inspiring beauty.

I've seen so many travellers go to Peru during the wrong season. They always assume they should go during Peruvian Summer but that can't be further from the truth. Peruvian Summer is wet season, meaning there is a good chance you'll be doing the Inca Trail through mud and reaching Machu Picchu with dense clouds. 

Begin your backpacking journey in the charming city of Cusco, once the capital of the Inca Empire, where you can wander the narrow streets lined with colonial architecture and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the Andes.

From there, embark on the unforgettable trek to Machu Picchu, where you'll follow in the footsteps of ancient civilizations as you wind your way through mountains and lush cloud forests. Arriving at the Lost City of the Incas, you'll be greeted by a panorama of terraced hillsides and stone temples. Don't forget a collapsible travel water bottle for this trek; you'll need it.

But Peru so much more than Cusco and Machu Picchu. However, you have to go during the right season. If you go to Peru, you can't miss the out-of-this-world landscapes of the Sacred Valley, the vibrant colors of Rainbow Mountain, the hustle of the Lima, or cruising along Lake Titicaca.
